We previously profiled Iwa, the short animation by Kenneth Coker which references Nigerian folklore. This maker created an alternative version of Iwa with a different musical score by composer Robert Wingfield.

TV2 Zulu – Blood Donation from Stupid Studio on Vimeo.

The above is an ad called Blood donation for TV2 a South African television station. The animation premise is basically the process of donation when a “Zulu warrior,” dies and his organs are used to save another person.

The animation is for a good cause but rife with unneccesary imagery. The first one being the whole Zulu warrior premise, then the big afro wearing, nose boned character who makes a cameo halfway through.

Also the warrior is on a bicycle, with a chicken tied to it on the back, which is wierd.

Going Gaga, is an animation on the channel of Youtube User Kenwayoforeh. The animation deals with the idea of conflict. It deals with the scramble over resources, and why people promote conflict for an end.

Nyonyi is a East African animation whose main theme is that of family. In the short movie we follow a little bird who after getting hatched goes on a search to find its parents.

The Magic Cellar is an animation which follows a a group of young children who are transported to a magical kingdom. Magic Cellar is the first animated series based on African culture. It has won 29 awards. It is directed by by Firdaus Kharas.

The animation is based on African folktales, but is directed by a Canadian director Mr. Firdaus Kharas. The fact that the animation was directed by someone not native to Africa is reflected in The Magic Cellar to some extend.

Miaka is a animated music video from Kenyan music group Jua Cali. The animated style is bit similar to the one used by another Kenyan band, Just A Bandwidth, but seems more subtle relaxed and slow paced.

The XYZ Show is a satirical puppet animation show from Kenya. The series lampoons the Kenyan politis and society. The show was the first to use puppets to poke fun at Kenyan politicians, something which was later adopted by South African ZANews.

The show is hosted on Youtube and is broadcast on Citizen TV, a Kenyan television channel.

The animation is about childhood of Kakenya Ntaiya, a Masai woman who negotiated herself out of an arranged marriage and convinced her village to collect money for her to study in the USA. She has since returned to the village and built a girls’ school there.

The story of Kakenya is inspirational animation.  The animation style is a bit simplistic but that tends to add to the general tone and emotion impact of the story.

The animation is based on the life of a Kenyan woman Kakenya Ntaiya of the Masai clan. Ms Ntaiya also acts as narrator in the animation.

The footage added of Ms. Kakenya Ntaiya at the end of the animation, adds  significance and importance to the entire story.

All in all the animation is a engaging story of an extra-ordinary woman
